Reasons why we need music in our school systems

Hi in today's post I want to talk about reasons why we nee music in our school systems. In today's school systems, unless you go to an arts school, when there is need for budget cuts or figuring out ways to save money the cancel the arts programs first, especially music programs like band. I personally experienced this two years ago with my own band. Our band is made up of seven different towns/communities with only being able to practice one a week with everyone and have it be a pull out class. For those who don't know what a pull out class is it means that we are taking two classes in the same slot in our time table. This can be very hard and stressful especially as you got older and classes became more important. Our band program was being cut due to the division being in debt, two of the biggest problems I had with this choice was 1) it was the only music program they offered for us which meant we had to switch schools to get a music type of credit for certain post secondary 2) none of the sports was affected by the debt, my school had just bought brand new soccer uniforms and new basketballs yet the band program they went after when they needed money help. We need music because it can help so many people, band is a place that anyone can fit in from jocks, to popular kids, to "nerds", to outsiders, even people who don't belong to a group, they are accepted in band and there is no popularity barriors. Music programs also help people with stress or emotional problems. I had a very good friend of mine state that if we didn't have band practice later that day she would have taken her life. Music United people and, at least with ours, we created a family that even though I might not like everyone there is not one person in band who I wouldn't stand up for. The list is endless for reasons why we need music programs in our education systems. Please if you read this post a comment on why we need to keep programs like this. Thanks!
